Keyhole surgery

Keyhole surgery is also known as laparoscopic surgery. It is basically a minimally invasive surgery. It refers to a modern and advanced surgical method in which surgeries are accomplished far from their exact situation by means of small incisions (generally 0.5–1.5 cm) somewhere else in the human body. This is a very effective surgical process. This procedure is safe as well. The success rate of this surgery is very high.

Kinds of keyhole surgery of Knee Arthroscopy

Keyhole surgery is basically used for two kinds of ligament construction. They are Keyhole PCL Reconstruction and keyhole ACL Reconstruction.

Benefits of this surgical procedure

The benefits of this surgical procedure are

  • Reduced pain
  • Reduced haemorrhaging
  • Short recovery period
  • Positive outcome.

Risk Factors of keyhole surgery for knee

The negative sides of keyhole surgery are mentioned here.

  • Inability of judging accurately how much energy is being applied to tissue and cells.
  • Reduced chance of depth perception.
  • Reduced tactile sensation
  • Chance of damaging tissue

Recovery time

Recovery from this anaesthetic surgery is quick and the patient will be awake very soon after the surgical procedure though the patient will feel drowsy for an hour.  The patient will be permitted for going home once the patient is weight bearing with the aid of crutches, if essential, for safety.

Minimally invasive procedure of knee arthroscopy

A cuff-like tool can be put around one’s thigh for controlling bleeding during the process. The expert will create two or three tiny cuts around one’s knee. Salt water or saline will be inserted into one’s knee for stretching the knee. A thin tube with a small camera on the edge will be placed via one of the cuts. The camera is associated with a video monitor which helps the surgeon in seeing inside the knee. The surgeon can put other tiny surgery devices inside one’s knee via the other cuts. The surgeon will then go for fixing or removing the problem in one’s knee. At the conclusion of knee surgery, the saline will be exhausted from the knee. The surgeon will simply close the cuts with sutures or stitches and plaster them with a dressing. Most of the surgeons take pictures of the procedure from the video monitor; one may be able to view these pictures after the operation so that you can see what was done.
